Gate 8: Financials for Entrepreneurs

Money Matters (Finance & Fundraising)

Gate 8- Financials for Entrepreneurs

Start Up Financials Toolkit

Time to talk about the money side of your startup – but don’t worry, we’ll keep it simple and useful. Gate 8 is about making sure you understand your venture’s finances and learning how to raise funds if you need to. Think of it as getting the toolkit to manage your startup’s fuel (cash!). You’ll learn how to budget for your business, project your revenue and costs, and decide if/when you should seek investment. Plus, we’ll cover how to pitch your startup to potential backers in a way that’s clear and authentic (no fancy Wall Street jargon needed). By the end, you’ll feel confident discussing money – a true startup superpower

What is Required of You

The Gate is divided into several sections, each focusing on a specific aspect of entrepreneurship. Each module includes readings, discussions, practical assignments, and assessments.

What you will get from the Gate

By the end of this gate, learners will be able to:

  1. Learn to manage a basic budget for your startup – know where every pound is going and how to stretch your funds further

  2. Get comfortable with financial terms like revenue, profit, and runway by seeing them in action on your own idea (you’ll never have to guess what these mean again).

  3. Figure out how much money you might need to reach your next big goal, and explore different ways to get it – from bootstrapping (self-funding) to asking investors or launching a crowdfunding campaign.

  4. Practice pitching your startup in a clear, authentic way that makes people want to support you. (We’ll help you tell your story, not just rattle off numbers.)

  5. Understand investor lingo and expectations, so you can walk into your first funding conversation feeling like a pro (even if you’re new at this).

How we support you

We will provide support throughout your learning experience. Your learning Success manager will be available to support you if you have any questions or need any help. You can also schedule one session with a mentor to discuss entrepreneurship questions related to this gate.
